BIOGRAPHY

85fc0e4e.jpg

Valerie Dean (real name: Schmidt) was born on June 2nd, 2000 in Buxtehude, near Hamburg.

After graduating from high school in 2018, she went to Australia as an au pair for ten months and then completed an apprenticeship as a marketing clerk. During her current studies in foreign trade she is working on the sequels to her previously published novels and on new projects.

Stories and in general writing and dealing with words have always fascinated her since she was little.

She started making up stories at the age of six, mostly about animals or about the dolls she and her sister used to play with, and writing them down in elementary school notebooks. She also liked to write poems and still does to this day. Some of these are published on her blog along with other literary works such as short stories. Her creative achievements include writing lyrics for the band Atlas Road, in which she is the lead singer.

Inspired by the "Freche Mädchen" novels that were popular at the time in Germany, at the age of 11 she wrote the story "Liebe, Chaos, Kindermädchen" (current title: "Nicki: Liebeswahn & Kindermädchen") by hand in a notebook. This project was the beginning of her quest to write an actual book.

Many more stories followed, and have since been reworked as her writing style evolved as she grew in life.

Writing plays an important role in Valerie's life, she says:

"There's something special about the feeling of being surprised by your own inventions when you're skimming through old manuscripts after a long time, as well as the feeling that characters take on a life of their own and act completely differently than planned because of spontaneous inspirations. At that point you can feel that your own story is alive, like a perfect movie that is running in your head and that you have always wanted to see, and that is one of the best feelings I know.”
